Sara

This piece was made as a commission work for the lovely Sara to decorate their living room following a home renovation. It was challenging to make the flow of the pieces work with such a ratio, although I did love every minute figuring it out. 

When I work on these timber artworks I spend a lot of time making sure those pieces of timber work together. To put random colourful shapes is easy. The challenge is to build tension and harmony at the same time. To get the observer's eye running all around to find new corners and angles to explore. I believe River Valley is capable of all these. Enjoy.

"Re" is a big part of my life. I love to reduce, reuse, and recycle whatever I can in my personal and artistic life too. Owning a name that means reborn cannot be a coincidence overall.

The "Re" series was inspired by a piece I made many years ago to decorate my home. The idea came to me after seeing some recycled furniture at a home show built from demolished timber following the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.
